Who is the Tulane Shockwave Dance Team?

The Shockwave Dance Team is an All-American collegiate dance team that represents Tulane University. They dance on the sidelines at all home Tulane football games and perform pre-game and halftime shows with the TUMB.  They also perform in Mardi Gras parades in the spring, as well as all men's and women's home basketball games and select volleyball and baseball games each year. The majority of the routines Shockwave perform are hip hop, pom, and jazz.

When are Shockwave rehearsals?

Shockwave practices two to two and half hours 2-3 days a week plus gym training sessions each week during the fall and spring semesters.  Currently practices are held every Monday and Wednesday from 8-10 pm with Friday evenings being open for extra rehearsals if needed.  Members of the Shockwave can be involved in organizations on Tulane's campus, as long as they realize the time commitment involved with being on Shockwave.

Do Shockwave members have to purchase any uniform pieces?

All performance uniforms are property of Tulane University and the TUMB.  At the end of each year members will be required to return all uniform pieces in the condition they were given in.  Sports bras, tights, shoes, and earrings will be determined according to club budget what the member will have to purchase.

What is the audition process?

  • Auditions are closed to the public (this includes your family and friends)
  • The audition dance will be performed in front of a panel of judges.
  • All candidates will be judged in the areas listed below:
    • Appearance - pay special attention to hair and makeup.  Judges will also be looking for a toned physique.
    • Dance execution and ability - the judges will be looking for precision, coordination, and timing
    • Technique - judges will be looking for proper execution of all technique
    • Poise and Projection

I do not have a professional headshot for tryouts.

This is ok!  Judges just need a current picture of you for the final selection process.  Any picture will do.

Are males allowed to audition?

Absolutely!  We encourage any males interested in being a part of Shockwave to audition.

What is considered performance hair and makeup?

Shockwave performs at most games with their hair down and styled.  Here is an example look of what we would like for our audition look:
